Beth Hall-Fletcher | Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business

I wanted to improve my knowledge and employability and the course, combined with the trips and work placement, have really pushed me and allowed me to develop further. I now have a place to study Politics at Leeds University. College has opened so many doors for me and given me opportunities that sixth form could never have done. I really recommend college, just take every opportunity that comes your way.

Course Overview

This course can lead to career opportunities in a variety of business related fields or degree level programmes such as the Foundation Degree in Business, or professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD), the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) or the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

This course usually takes place over 3 days per week for two years. You complete the 90-credit Diploma in the first year and the Extended Diploma in the second year. The two-year course is equivalent to 3 A-Levels and is worth up to 168 UCAS points (Triple Distinction*) or 144 UCAS points (Triple Distinction). UCAS have recently changed the UCAS Tariff from September 2017 so they could include more qualifications. The new Tariff points are lower than the original Tariff points but the value remains the same, as universities will just use lower Tariff numbers in their entry requirements than in previous years.

The team of tutors are specialists in their area and have industry experience. They organise a variety of trips for students, for example, a trip to London to visit the Bank of England, Houses of Parliament and The Supreme Court.

Throughout the year there are guest speakers, workshops and in house competitions.

All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a 'C' grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.

There are 9 units in Year 1 and 9 units in Year 2.

Mandatory units include:
- Economics
- Finance
- Marketing
- Business communications

You will also have the opportunity to study specialist units in:
- Human resource management
- Law
- Event management
- Team leading
- Accounting

Assessment is continual throughout the year and includes:
- Coursework
- Multiple Choice Examination
- Portfolio of Evidence
- Practical Demonstration/Assignment.

All units are assessed, and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Entry Requirements

You will need either:

Five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths or a Level 2 Diploma or NVQ in a related field or equivalent.

All applications will be considered on their individual merit.
