What course did you study at Kendal College?
Level 3 Diploma in Applied Medical Science (Forensic).
Why did you choose this course?
When I was finishing school I originally wanted to join the police force and was interested in this course. I thought that successful completion of it would boost my application.
Why did you decide to come to Kendal College?
It was a better option than A-levels, I felt that I would just be learning things I didn’t need. This course enabled me to concentrate on the subject I really wanted to learn without any distractions. It has really sparked my interest in criminal psychology
What is the teaching style like on your course?
We have both theory and practical sessions, including lab work and experiments. Our tutor gives us assignments to complete and we are encouraged to carry out additional research. She is really helpful and encouraging and we can call her by her first name. The most exciting thing we did was process a mock crime scene she had set up in the woods.
Is College like you had expected. If not, why?
It is more relaxed than school and timetables are not set in stone. If we finish early and all our work is completed we can leave early or complete additional study in the learning centre. I would say that school is more rigid and college gives you more freedom to think for yourself.
What opportunities has College offered you as a student?
I went on a trip to Geneva to see the CERN Hadron Collider and we also visited some science-based museums. We had the freedom to explore the city ourselves, see the market and go out for meals.
What are you planning to do after College/ what career are you hoping to pursue?
I applied for 5 universities and got offers from all of them. I’ve accepted the place for BSc Psychology at Lancaster University and start in September!
Would you recommend studying at Kendal College (and why)?
Yes I would it is an adult learning environment and has made me feel more mature.
If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
If there is a course, which relates to your future career plans then do it. The BTEC courses offered at college give you a broader perspective about what career pathways are available.
