Due to staff development, the college will be closed to all full-time students from 09:00 – 17:00 on Tuesday 26th November.
Part-time evening classes will run as usual.

Why did you choose this course?
I wanted to do Art but didn’t have the qualifications so I had to come back and redo it and this was the best looking course in the area.

What made you choose Kendal College?
It was the facilities like the whole range of everything and that I could try out lots of different stuff.

Is college like you expected? If not, why?
It’s pretty much what I expected, an adult environment where I could do pretty much whatever I wanted to do.

Considering you’re a mature student then, has that impacted on your time here?
Well, I’ve been able to do extra stuff and things like student council – I think they think that I have more developed leadership qualities over younger people.

What is it you enjoy the most about college life?
The freedom to do whatever you want really.

What opportunities have you had as a student at college?
Trying lots of different media that I haven’t tried before, going to artist workshops and stuff like that. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do that anywhere else.

What is the teaching style like on your course?
In comparison to university, the tutors are really good and they care about each individual student, whereas at university they didn’t get to know you at all. Everyone’s really friendly here.

Can you describe a typical day at college?
A lot of it is blog work right now because we’re nearing the end of a project. Mornings usually are the blogs and then afternoons are back to practical – so getting messy. The project I’m working on at the moment is a ceramics project so we’re waiting for them to come out of the kiln at the moment.

How would you describe your college experience so far?
Fantastic, I have the freedom to do what I want so I’ve been able to work on projects that reflect me and my style.

What are you hoping to do after college?
I’m still not sure. I don’t know whether I want to go to university again or whether I should carry on doing Art or whether I should go straight into a job. I’m not sure what I want to do so I’ve got to come to a decision soon.

What facilities do you use regularly at college?
We use the workshop which is pretty common for most people right now.Next year we get to try the woodworking facilities as well as the graphic design bit.

If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
Come to college because it’s something you want to do rather than just going because it’s something to do. Make sure you’re passionate about what you want to study because you’re going to be doing it every day for a long time. I went to university to do English because I felt like it was the right thing to do, rather than doing the thing that I wanted to do.
