What course did you study at Kendal College?
Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

Why did you choose this course?
I have always been interested in cars and a group of students from my school came to the college on a taster day. They told me how brilliant it was. I also looked at the photographs of the motor vehicle workshop on the college website, it looked really good.

Why did you decide to come to Kendal College?
I looked at other Colleges in the area, but the staff I spoke to were really unhelpful when I asked about the course and bus routes. Kendal staff were really helpful and encouraging.

What is the teaching style like on your course?
My tutor is ace and really friendly. We have a mixture of both theory and practical sessions. He relates car problems, which need to be solved to real-life situations. I learn things without realising because his teaching style is very relaxed and he makes it fun. We work on ‘live’ jobs in the workshop solving car problems for both staff and students.

Is College like you had expected. If not, why?
It was really scary to start with because I was the only girl on the course and I was quite shy. However, the induction week organised by the staff was brilliant and the activities they arranged enabled the whole group to bond. I have made some really good friends as the course has progressed and had such a lot of fun.

What opportunities has College offered you as a student?
My course included a work placement, which was really beneficial. Some students have been offered employment as a direct result of this experience. We have also been on trips for example go-karting at Christmas and to a massive car show in Birmingham

What are you planning to do after College/what career are you hoping to pursue?
My tutor is helping me to look for an apprenticeship.

Would you recommend studying at Kendal College (and why)?
Definitely, it is so much better than school. I have learnt more than I expected and I have met so many different people.

If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
There are so many different courses and I am sure that there will be something you definitely will want to study. It is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and make new friends.
