When did you start the course?
I started in September 2017, I came to an open day to look around and got plenty of information from the tutor at my interview.
Why did you choose this course?
I have always been interested in cars and doing something practical so Motor Vehicle is the perfect course.
Why did you choose Kendal College?
Kendal College has far better reviews than LMC and easier to get to from Carnforth.
What opportunities have you had as a student at the College?
Last year we were involved in refurbishing the Lotus, one of the classic motors in the garage. We also worked on the trike which has been sold now. At the Classic Car show we did marshalling, looked around and took pictures, it was fun.
What is the teaching style like on your course?
We learn the theory, then practical and then there is an exam. The course covers more than L1 so we have 6 exams covering everything. So far we have done electrical, engine external and internal, chassis, brakes and suspension. We also do assessments like removing a cylinder head on a Ford KA, so putting into practice what we have learned in theory. Revision time can be added to the end of the lesson to go over what you have learned if you are not sure. We work in small groups and support is available for students.
What are you hoping to do after College?
I have an apprenticeship at Mitsubishi for a Level 3 Apprentice.
What facilities do you use regularly at the College?
The equipment in the Garage is of a good standard considering it’s a college.
If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
Go for it, it’s a much better environment than school. There is a good balance, it feels more laid back but the tutors are serious when they need to be.
