Our Level 3 full-time professional courses are equivalent to 3 A-Levels and offer an excellent combination of practical and academic study in preparation for university and employment. They enable progression to a wide range of careers, including radiography, engineering, nursing, pharmacy, chemical engineering, quantity surveying, psychology, genetics, veterinary science, biochemistry and forensic science. We also offer GCSE and A-Level Biology.
Our courses are extremely hands-on, so students should be prepared for a high degree of practical study. There will be a lot of emphasis on analysing data & experiments and working safely & professionally within a laboratory environment. Students will learn fundamental skills related to the industries and using existing scientific knowledge, students will develop more practical applications to support science, including technology or other new inventions.
“My experience of college so far has been amazing. I’ve met lots of new people, made lots of new friends and had a fun time. It’s a relaxed, laid back environment and there are a lot of opportunities that are not available in school, including additional support from Learning Services should you need it. I chose this course as I was interested in science. It is a good mix of both practical and theory so we learn a lot in the lab and do a lot of experiments in class. After finishing, I am hoping to go to University to study Paramedical Science.”

Our courses are delivered by our professional team of tutors who are highly-qualified to BSc (Hons) or doctorate level in various scientific disciplines including Criminology and Applied & Forensic Science so have a wide range of experience. Our courses have been specifically designed to enable students to gain the practical, applied skills for a wide range of professional careers.
We’ve been investing heavily in College facilities and equipment over the last few years and our courses are taught in a brand new, purpose-built scientific laboratory with modern, state-of-the-art IT facilities. For these courses, we deliberately keep our student group sizes low to make sure that all of the specialist equipment is readily available and students benefit from the highest level of direct tutor support and advice. Kendal College is also currently the only college in Cumbria and North Lancashire to offer the Level 3 Forensic & Criminal Investigation course.
Many of our Applied Science students progress to University and Higher Level study such as undertaking an Honours Degree in one of the Life Sciences (Biology, Microbiology, Genetics or Biochemistry), Medicine, Forensic Science, Policing or Psychology areas to name just a few. Applied Science students could progress to a wide range of careers from radiography, medical or chemical engineering, and pharmaceuticals, to psychology and biochemistry. There are also progression routes in the workplace such as Forensic Scientists, Fraud Investigator, and Laboratory Technicians.
