Do you enjoy practical and creative work? Have you ever thought about working within the nail industry? Would you like to work with advanced nail products such as acrylic? If the answer to these questions is yes, then this course is for you!
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology (QCF) is a specialist vocationally related qualification. This qualification will complement the knowledge, understanding and skills, gained at Level 2 and is focussed on producing highly proficient, professional Nail Technicians.
You will work alongside enthusiastic and experienced staff and use up-to-date facilities and equipment. The department runs a variety of trips throughout the year, for example, an overseas spa trip. Students also have the opportunity to compete in WorldSkills competitions.
This qualification will enable you to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding required to perform manicure and pedicure treatments on the hands and feet to improve the condition and appearance of the skin and nails. A range of nail technology techniques, including the use of gel and acrylic nail enhancement products and the application of nail art, also form part of this qualification. We will equip you with the required attributes, skills, knowledge and understanding needed to perform professional nail treatments for clients via employment or self-employment in the nail services industry.
This qualification is most suited to learners who wish to advance in their profession or to become salon managers and salon owners.
The course teaches advanced nail techniques needed to become a professional nail technician. Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology is made up of 10 units including:
- Apply and maintain nail enhancements (Acrylic and Gel)
- Enhance nails using electric files
- Airbrush Designs for nails
- Provide Pedicure treatments
- Design and apply nail art (Including long-lasting gel polish)
- Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon.
The emphasis on this qualification is advanced nail application and includes both salon standard and photographic designed nails.
The course is a mix of practical and theory sessions delivered by qualified and experienced staff. The emphasis is towards practical development, and there are more salon sessions than theory. Initially, you will be working with members of your group, and you will also be required to model for other students.
There are opportunities to attend professional trade shows and college workshops with outside educators on topics such as fantasy nail art and 3D Acrylic design. Once you have reached a suitable standard, you will be expected to work on clients (members of the general public).
There is no final examination, but you will be continuously assessed using a range of methods; observation of practical work, oral questions, assignments, online tests and portfolio evidence to demonstrate understanding. You will be required to undertake independent study outside of the taught sessions and practice your skills. Practical skills will be taught with the use of a hand trainer at first and then progress onto working on members of your class for realistic practice.
All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a ‘C’ grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.
This course will be part of a wider study programme, which may also include english & maths, work placement and additional studies.
How will I be assessed?
Students may progress to a position within industry; opportunities including working as a professional nail technician within a salon or on a cruise ship, or opening your own salon or mobile business.
You will take part in organised visits and also assist in organising in house competitions which you can observe if you are not an entrant. These experiences give you the chance to work with different clients and are a useful preparation for employment.
You will need to have a Level 2 qualification in Nail Technology or Beauty Therapy, or equivalent. You must also have a keen interest in working with a variety of nail techniques on both hands and feet. You will need to be willing to be a model during practical lessons.
All students interested in this course should contact the course tutor prior to enrolment: Angela DaCosta: firstname.lastname@example.org
