This course will enable you to develop your skills further as you cover subjects such as servicing and repair of motor vehicles, braking systems, electrical systems, suspension systems, steering systems together with fault diagnosis and rectification.
You will work on a range of real jobs (working on student’s and tutor’s cars) in our industry standard workshop over 3 days per week.
A variety of trips take place throughout the year. For example, go-karting at Cumbria Karting and a visit to the Motorsport Show at NEC Birmingham. Work experience in local businesses is also offered.
You will gain the following transferable skills on this programme: managing money, ordering parts, problem solving and communicating with customers.
All of our learners will be provided with support with their English and Maths skills (where relevant). Those students who have not yet achieved a C grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards achieving these qualifications at a level suited to them.
This course will be part of a wider study programme, which may also include english & maths, work placement and additional studies.
What will I learn?
This course will enable you to develop the skills started on the level 2 programme and covers:
- Servicing and repair of motor vehicles
- Braking systems
- Lighting systems
- Suspension systems
- Steering systems
- Electrical systems
- Basic motor vehicle engineering skills
- Industrial skills
The emphasis of this course is on the diagnostic processes you will need to carry out servicing and repair. You will use industry-standard diagnostic technology and specialist machines such as oscilloscopes and admissions analyses. You will use decision-making skills to make informed judgements on maintenance requirements.
How will I be assessed?
Your understanding of motor vehicle technology will be assessed via online exams. The practical work will be assessed by direct observation.
Following successful completion of the course it is anticipated that students can gain employment in the motor industry. Students may also progress to Higher Education or Level 4 programme.
You must have successfully completed the full time Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles course to join this course.
