Students will undertake a variety of activities to support the maths journey.

The basic rules of mathematics are taught to the whole class, and support is given & extra classes are provided as and when necessary.

Study at home is essential for consolidation and practice.

The GCSE curriculum at foundation is covered with all knowledge required to achieve grade 4 - 5 (C ) at GCSE.

Topics will include:
- Number work
- Algebra
- Shape, space and measurement
- Handling data

The course also supports problem solving skills and using geometrical instruments.

There will be continuous formative assessment throughout the course leading to three summative equally-weighted written examination papers in June.

Entry requirements

The confidence, willingness and ability to learn. It is essential that you already possess a grade D or grade 3 in the subject at GCSE, or an equivalent level 2 qualification. You will complete an initial assessment to identify your current skill level. If you haven’t a GCSE D or grade 3 in the subject, the College runs mathematics functional skills workshops, which you could join to develop your skills before moving onto the GCSE.

For the course you will need a Maths geometry set, Scientific Calculator and a GCSE Maths revision guide (Revision guides will be available to purchase during week 1 one of the course).
