Apprentice Chef - New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel
As an Apprentice Chef you will learn all aspects of the hotel kitchen and receive training to support you achieving your Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications. This Apprenticeship offers accommodation. Due to working hours this vacancy is only for applicants aged 19 years plus.
Set amidst the lake districts most dramatic fells in the picturesque langdale valley The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel nestles beneath the langdale pikes and pavey ark. The hotel sits in 6 acres of mature gardens and pastures. The hotel is of historical interest being built on a medieval settlement and it enjoys the most breathtaking views of langdale at every point of the compass. The New Dungeon Ghyll hotel is a family owned and run hotel ,with a passion for friendly and quality service. We offer excellent accommodation with a choice of 4 poster, superior, standard and family rooms all in a stunning location and each boasting the most fantastic view.
As part of your Apprenticeship you will be involved in all details of the section within the kitchen including:
• Some butchery
• Preparations of all sections
The working environment is friendly with obvious load points at service. You will work with people who are hardworking and have a common goal.
You will have your own bedroom with a shared bathroom. You will be required to pay a weekly amount for food, lodgings, washing etc
Support is available with uniform and equipment
You will have use of a Leisure Club with free wifi access, 2 miles down the road
No less than 40, but more likely 45-50. You will be paid for all hours you work. 5 working days per week Spilt (7am-1pm 5pm -9.30pm) and straight shifts (12-9.30pm)
We are looking for someone who is:
• Team worker
• Good communication skills
• Hard working
To be more involved with the day to day running of the kitchen, to learn about margins, buying (market runs to Manchester) and control of sections within the kitchen, with a permanent position.
Things to consider
The hotel is situated in a valley with a daily bus service, but it is 6 miles from Ambleside so a little remote but a good place to be able to save some money. Internet access is slow.
Training to be provided
Your training will include NVQ training, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills (English and Maths). You will be assessed in the workplace and cover off the job training in college. You will build a portfolio of evidence that you will collect from the everyday tasks relating to your job. You will be assessed in the workplace and cover off the job training in college. Hours of work:
40 Hours per week
£240 per week - Under 21 years £6.00 per hour. Over 21 years £7.00 per hour. Wage increases reviewed
