More part time courses than ever before at Kendal College

05 Sep 2016

Over 200 different part time and short courses are open to adult learners at Kendal College from this September – more than have ever been offered before.

These include new Creative courses such as Fashion Design, Creative Media, Jewellery making and life drawing, which have been introduced for 2016 to coincide with the opening of the new Wildman Street Studios – the last jigsaw piece in the College’s Creative Hub at the northern end of the town.

Courses are typically studied over one, two or three days a week, therefore designed to fit around other work and family commitments. There are one-off options such as Social Media for Business and other supportive IT and administration skills courses, and range up to Degree and Access to Degree level courses. These run for up to 34 weeks of the year. Evening courses are also available leading to a range of professional and technical qualifications to support career development.

The College’s short courses are popular with local businesses who recognise the value of investing in ongoing professional development for their employees. Constant technological advances and nationwide skills shortages will end up with companies being left behind if they do not keep pace with competitors.

At the same time, the Government has introduced a new initiative to encourage more adults to further their education. The ‘19+ Advanced Learner Loans’ were previously only available to adults aged 24 years and over, but this year the age has been reduced and levels expanded. The loan helps pay College fees and is only paid back when annual earnings are more than £21,000.

Kendal College part time courses that are eligible for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan are clearly marked in the new Adult Part Time Course Guide. To download a copy HERE
